¡Vuelve Madrid Design Festival! The Madrid Design Festival is back – and Berlin is presenting itself not only as the guest city, but once again as a globally trendsetting creative metropolis.

On the occasion of the upcoming 20th anniversary of our capital as a UNESCO City of Design, the appearance in February 2025 will consist of three areas: the central presentation at the 'Fiesta Design', the integration of at least two Berlin positions in the curated group exhibition on the theme of light ('La Línea Sueña') and a lecture or panel discussion during the 'MadridDesignPRO' (conference format).

The 8th edition of the Madrid Design Festival will take place from 12 to 23 February 2025 under the motto 'Redesigning the world'. With an extensive programme, the festival aims to demonstrate its transformative power and provide inspiring examples of creativity and responsibility – towards the environment and society. Want to know more about the programme? Stream the official press presentation on YouTube on 12 December 2024 from 12 pm.

Fiesta Design – the central presentation

The space curated by the Berlin design duo Gonzalez Haase is at the centre of the Berlin presentation. In addition to the work of Gonzales Haase AAS Design, 'Berlin Scenography' will also provide space for the work of other Berlin designers from a wide range of disciplines. Interactive elements and events will complement the space, which is intended to symbolise Berlin's role in shaping culture and meet the city's expectations.

La Línea Sueña – the exhibition

The two-month group exhibition on the theme of light at the Fernán Gómez Centre is another component of Berlin's presence at the Madrid Design Festival. In cooperation with the curator, at least two Berlin positions have been integrated: These include Gonzalez Haase, who are known for their lighting design. The connection to 'Fiesta Design' is thus clearly perceptible. Frank Oehring will also have the opportunity to present an installation of his light sculpture from the ICC Berlin, which opened in 1979. For the first time in this form, models, drawings and a video will be presented together. This unique compilation builds a bridge to Berlin and at the same time refers to the visionary design concepts of the 1970s.

We are very pleased to be able to establish a continuous presence of Berlin throughout the festival with this exhibition, in order to promote the exchange between the Berlin design scene and the international festival audience.

MadridDesignPRO – the conference programme

Participation in MadridDesignPRO is already being planned. Together with up to four participants, the 'Fiesta Design' spaces and the group exhibition will be thematically linked in keynote speeches and/or a panel discussion. The aim is to create an interdisciplinary discourse that emphasises Berlin's role as a globally recognised design metropolis. The connection between business, design and culture will also be deepened.
