Deep Tech Award 2017

Category: Competitions

“Every year, the Deep Tech Award boasts Berlin as a globally acknowledged high-tech hub. With its many technical universities and research centres Berlin plays an important role in the field of DeepTech. If science, grown-up and DeepTech start-up companies cooperate, Berlin will have the best chances to become a renowned DeepTech location on a global level.

In presenting the award, we wish to promote Deep Tech development expertise in Berlin and to give an award to start-ups that provide innovative products and solutions”, jury member Michael Pemp, consultant at the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises in the field of ICT industry, telecommunication and postal services, explains why the Deep Tech Award is just right for Berlin.

The aim of the Deep Tech Award, whose total prize money is 60,000 Euros, is to acknowledge innovative hardware and system software. Co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE), it mainly addresses small and medium-sized companies based in Berlin. The closing date for applications is 5th November 2017. We look for hardware- or software-based application-oriented and tested solutions, characterized by a high degree of innovation and great potential for the future.

Last year, the award was given to these Berlin companies: PTX tech GmbH, Factor-E Analytics GmbH, MCS DataLabs GmbH and Cassantec GmbH. This year again, we are awaiting the submissions full of suspense. The jury assessed, among other things, the degree of innovation, unique characteristics, benefits and added value from the user’s perspective, market potential, data protection and data security concept, and the design. The awarding and presentation of prizes for at least three “Deep Tech Stars” will take place in Berlin on 30th November 2017. An independent, top-class jury will assess the submitted contributions.

Michael Pemp, consultant at the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises in the field of ICT industry, telecommunication and postal services, explains what has already been achieved by awarding the Deep Tech Award, “The Deep Tech Award provides a public platform for companies. Their reputation as the award winner helps them convince partners or sponsors more easily. The award ceremony will take place in the context of a public event. This event will show the outstanding potentials of IT companies in the German capital.

Companies that have won the Deep Tech Award in the past few years keep confirming that the prize money received in relation with the acknowledgement was an excellent means of further promoting their corporate development and to establish contacts with research institutions and R&D-focused companies.”
