Social TV in Berlin

Swiss social TV channel joiz will go live in Berlin this summer. The interactive crossmedia broadcasting concept of the station combines television, Internet, mobile applications and social media. Everything centres on the audience: viewers can interact and actively shape the programme they are watching. The output of joiz in Germany will be freely available on cable, satellite and various apps.

Social TV for digital natives
In Switzerland, joiz has already been broadcasting for almost two years – and with great success. The target audience of the social TV station includes 15- to 34-year-olds, and the programmes shown are also geared towards the interests of a young audience made up of digital natives. Topics covered on the channel range from music, fashion, nightlife and the digital world to politics and environmental issues. Live chats and audience surveys are an integral part of the programmes. Using a second screen, viewers can use social media platforms to ask questions, make comments and rate the programme. In addition to a 24-hour live stream on its website, joiz provides its own video-on-demand platform.

New Berlin team
The German offshoot will adjust the range of programmes as well as the presenters and guests to suit the local market. The owners and founders of joiz, Alexander Mazzara, Peter Schulz, Kurt Schaad, Christoph Bürge and Dominik Stroppel, will spend the coming months assembling a team of editors and presenters in addition to production and marketing specialists. CEO of joiz, Alexander Mazzara, previously worked as managing editor at Schweizer Fernsehen and worked for the Swiss section of RTL, ProSieben and Viva. The decision to establish a location in Berlin is both a welcome addition to the local media landscape and further evidence of the attractiveness of Germany’s creative capital.
