Within the framework of their state initiative Project Future, the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises presents the Digital Health Award Berlin for the first time. The goal is to find the best Health Tech startups from Berlin with their digital solutions and technological applications for the healthcare sector.

Applications may be submitted as soon as possible and at the latest until 8th October 2018.

On the occasion of the Digital Health Summit held in November 2018, finalists can present their innovations. The three winners will then be elected and awarded the prize by an expert jury and the professional audience.

The Digital Health Award is endowed with a total of 50,000 Euro.

Senator for Economics, Ramona Pop, describes the idea behind the Digital Health Award Berlin, ”The digital transformation poses challenges to the healthcare industry, while also offering opportunities. Our aim is to develop the potential of digitalisation in the healthcare sector. The Digital Health Award Berlin shows how much innovative strength Berlin has at its command through the cooperation of various stakeholders from the cluster of ICT, media, creative industry and healthcare sector. We are becoming a beacon of digital health and Health 4.0. Berlin is the ideal location in Germany to meet global challenges. The healthcare sector in Berlin will benefit from the city’s strong, innovative and international digital scene”.

Smart Data, artificial intelligence, apps, wearables, virtual reality – digitalisation has reached the healthcare sector with various new and creative solutions. With the Digital Health Award, the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises/Project Future wants to promote digital transformation, make future-oriented digital health solutions visible and support their innovators with their implementation and marketing activities.

The competition entries may comprise products, applications and procedures for the B2B and B2C field and thus address any target group in the healthcare sector. They may also present solutions for each phase in the healthcare process, ranging from well-being, monitoring, prevention, diagnosis, healthcare research and doctor-patient-relationship to therapy solutions. The goal is to find solutions with technological focus on fields such as Big Data, artificial intelligence, intelligent user interfaces, Internet of Things, Blockchain or smart devices.

The award ceremony takes place within the framework of the Digital Health Summit on 21st November 2018 under the auspices of Ramona Pop, Senator for Economics. In the context of the summit, participants will discuss and agree measures taken to minimize the challenges of digitalization in the healthcare sector in Berlin – whether concerning data protection, patients’ rights, reimbursement or international competition.
