According to experts, fans and spectators will soon be able to experience large events on an interactive level using technologies such as virtual and augmented reality. A prerequisite for this is the ability to live broadcast large amounts of data. “5G networks offer customers faster video and virtual reality content in better quality which will have a significant impact on customer experience,” says Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, CTO of Deutsche Telekom AG. Markus Borchert, Senior Vice President of Nokia, notes that it will be decisive “to test potential applications in live environments using systems that are commercially available.” The demonstration during ISTAF has clearly shown “that the experience in the stadium will be a very immediate and interactive one in the near future.”

Cornelia Yzer, Senator for Economics, Technology and Research, hopes that Berlin as a leader in 5G technology will also benefit economically from this development and attract new technology companies and startups. “It is of key importance that we develop 5G in Berlin, together with leading business partners such as Telekom and Nokia, and partners from the worlds of academia and research,” she says.
