In the context of the “Digital Summit for the Healthcare Industry”, we awarded the “Digital Health Award Berlin” to the winning Berlin-based startups. The winner of the 1st prize (endowed with 25,000€) was Audatic, ai4medicine received the 2nd prize endowed with 15,000€ and the winner of the 3rd prize endowed with 10,000€ was HygNova.

All six nominees were presenting their digital solutions and technological applications for the healthcare industry to the audience and the panel of 19 jury members who finally chose the three most innovative products.

Senator for Economic Affairs, Ramona Pop, said, “In awarding theDigital Health Award Berlin, we have demonstrated the innovative strength that lies in the cooperation between the stakeholders of the ICT cluster, the media, creative industry and the cluster of healthcare industry in Berlin. The winning products show the great potential of our capital city. Here, startups and research institutions work together very closely, and the results are highly innovative solutions that make Berlin a beacon for the digital health and health 4.0 sector. Berlin is the ideal location in Germany to meet also global requirements. The healthcare industry in Berlin benefits from the city’s strong, innovative and international digital sector.”

The price was awarded by State Secretary Christian Rickerts, who was visibly impressed by the diversity and sophistication of the participating products.

The three winners excelled in all aspects such as innovative level, medical relevance, market potential, data protection, design and team skills upon which the jury and the audience based their decision for the Digital Health startup winners. Two of the three winner startups use artificial intelligence, while the third winner combines hardware and software to create an IoT solution.

1st place: Audatic has developed a smart filter and detection system for voice and background noises. In particular for people with hearing impairment, artificial intelligence allows effortless interactions in noisy places.

2nd place: ai4medicine has committed itself to address stroke as a global disease. By way of modern AI technology, ai4Medicine personalises stroke prevention and treatment in a way that each patient receives customised treatment recommendations.

3rd place: HygNova helps medical institutions to document the hygienic practice of their staff anonymously in order to minimize hospital-acquired infections and help protect patients effectively. By way of IoT technology, the use of disinfectant dispensers can be measured and analysed on a dashboard, thus optimizing operations.

About Digital Health Award 

The Digital Health Award was held for the first time upon initiative by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises via the “Project Future” state initiative and in cooperation with Berlin Partner for Economy and Technology. In total, almost 40 startups submitted digital solutions and technological applications for the healthcare industry.

In the context of the Digital Summit, Senator Pop presented her discussion paper “Digital Health City Berlin” to around 200 guests. The paper had been prepared by the economic administration over the past months in cooperation with industrial stakeholders. It includes recommendations for actions to take in order to develop Berlin into one of the world’s leading locations for the digital healthcare industry, which are now to be put in place jointly.
