For four days, AoIR 2016 will examine the relevance of the Internet in today’s culture and politics as well as the effects that modern communication technologies have on social and economic processes. Who are the actors that make the rules in the world wide web? Who are the actors that break these rules? What are the rules that govern the use of interconnected devices, big data, crowd-sourcing or the Internet of Things? Hence the apt and ambiguous motto of the conference: "Internet Rules!".

Those wishing to make a contribution are invited to submit their proposals until 1 March 2016. Thematically, contributions could critically discuss algorithms, Internet culture or the Internet of Things, for example. The organiser particularly encourage suggestions for "experimental sessions", during which researchers take a look at current events from an unusual point of view.

This year's meeting will be hosted by Alexander von Humboldt Institut für Internet und Gesellschaft (Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society - HIIG) and Hans-Bredow Institut für Medienforschung (Hans Bredow Institute for Media Research). The organisers expect several hundred guests, including academics, researchers and young scientists examining the Internet from a perspective that integrates various academic disciplines and methods.

The AoIR is the world's largest and oldest association of researchers form various disciplines dedicated to systematically exploring the Internet and its impacts.
