Berlin is campaigning for internationalisation. In this spirit, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology has already forged partnerships with Tel Aviv and New York with Shanghai and Paris having signed the collaboration agreements in June and July 2016, respectively. The startup exchange is sending young founders on an exciting expedition: in the startup ecosystem of the partner city, the young founders are given the chance to present their ideas on an international stage and establish valuable contacts.

The Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research, too, runs a successful internationalisation programme. As part of this, Berlin-based fashion designers show their collections in the Berlin Showroom in Paris and New York twice a year. In March 2016, more than 500 international purchasers and journalists attended the presentation at <link http://www.berlin.de/projektzukunft/kreativwirtschaft/mode/artikel/berlin-showroom-erfolgreich-bei-der-fashion-week-paris/>Berlin Showroom</link>. The next <link http://www.berlinshowroom.com/>Berlin Showroom</link> will be taking place in autumn 2016.

International sales of products made in Berlin are on the rise. This is also the result of a current study by Investitionsbank Berlin. According to the study, the number of exports of products made in Berlin increased by 6.1 percent throughout 2015 – compared to an increase of 2.9 percent in 2014.

In order to deepen the exchange, expand international contacts and introduce products “made in Berlin” on the international market, the companies will also be travelling to international conventions and trade fairs in the second half of 2016.

This year, the companies will be present at <link http://www.slush.org/>Slush Helsinki</link> for the first time, with an information stand involving local companies and startups. The Senate Department has commissioned Berlin Partner for Business and Technology to organise the presentation. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the federal state of Berlin. From 30 November to 1 December 2016, Berlin-based companies can take part in the conference together with 15,000 participants, nearly 2,000 startups and 800 investors from more than 100 countries.

The second stop for companies from the Berlin/Brandenburg region is the Websummit in Lissabon which has grown into a meeting of the global tech scene. It will be taking place in Lissabon for the first time this year after its participation numbers have blown up to more than 40,000 participants from 134 countries in Dublin during the past six years.

Interested companies from the capital region will have the opportunity to take part in a cost-effective programme built into an attractive framework.

It shows from the participation of the capital region at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona that being part of the trade fairs is worth it. Already at the beginning of 2016, companies from Berlin and Brandenburg took part in the largest  mobile communications trade fair in Europe  which will be taking place again from 27 February to 2 March 2017.
